The Dream of the Big Salmon Draws Thousands

The Namsen river has long been a lifeline for the region — a majestic river known far beyond national borders. The legendary salmon fishing has made the Namsen an icon among world rivers, and the dream of landing a big salmon draws thousands of anglers here every year.
The Namsen watercourse flows through Namdalen — from Namsvatnet in the east to Namsos in the west. The river winds through wild nature and cultural landscapes. The Namsen and its tributaries are known as a large-salmon river; almost every year salmon over 20 kg are caught.

The season usually lasts from June 1 to August 31, but in some locations fishing is allowed outside the high season. It is important to remember to register in the Elvekort-app (river-permit app) and to report catches and fishing time.
